Patek, Philippe & Co., Geneva, for Jones, Shreve, Brown & Co., Boston, an important, early keyless gold pocket watch, 10 jewels, stem wind and set gilt bar movement with cylinder escapement in an 18 karat, yellow gold, hinged back and bezel, reeded edge, engine turned open face case, with maker's details engraved on gold cuvette, Roman numeral white enamel dial with plum colored steel Breguet style hands, serial #8814, 40mm, 46.1g TW, c1855.
CONDITION:
CASE: Minor dent, band; Very fine scratches on outer surface of case; Very fine scratches on inner surface of case; One hinge plug absent; Precious metal content marked. DIAL: Tiny flakes at 9:00 dial screw, otherwise very good. HANDS: Good. MOVEMENT PLATES: Minor scratches on plate. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks). A very nice example employing the first of Adrien Philippe's stem winding mechanisms, for which he was granted a patent on April 22, 1845.
